WebToGo introduces Mobile Internet for Laptops 2.0
Munich, 14.2.2005 – Today’s Laptops come with a wide range of suitable hardware for Internet connectivity. But neither the user nor the operating system is capable of handling this complexity. To address this need, WebToGo introduces its revolutionary Integrated Internet Connectivity software that will manage and automatically configure Internet access via UMTS, GSM, WiFi, Fixed Line and LAN networks at the click of a button. WebToGo’s patent-protected software Mobile Internet for Laptops 2.0 will work with MS Windows XP and Windows 2000, including mobile connections via GSM/UMTS phones or modems. For added convenience, it also features a new SMS/MMS and Phone Management module as well as WebToGo’s improved content optimization technology, which reduces the cost of surfing the web and enables mobile document viewing over slow connections. The software is available for EUR 29 per year at www.webtogoeurope.com.
Internet Connectivity on all networks
Automatic Internet Access – Choice and Control:
WebToGo has expanded its Internet connectivity beyond GSM network coverage (CSD, HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE) to also manage fixed-line dial-up, UMTS, WiFI and LAN. WebToGo Mobile Internet for Laptops 2.0 will proactively offer a connection to the fastest network available. This means the user only needs to download the software and is ready to go online and to stay online using his mobile phone, wireless modem card, inbuilt fixed-line modem or his WiFi or LAN hardware. WebToGo does not profit from connectivity and therefore integrates the best ISPs in the user’s interest. The software also monitors connection speeds and cost.
Broadest Selection of Networks and Hardware:
The software now offers even more networks and more phones, supporting an unrivalled range of hardware and networks. Connectivity is available via over 150 phones and PCMCIA modem cards as well as 160 GSM networks across 70 countries. Now fixed-line connections are also available in over 40 countries world-wide.
Roaming – Easy Internet Access Abroad:
Once the user selects the “Autodetect” functionality in the assistant, the best available data-roaming configuration will automatically and reliably be set up for him, as he hops from country to country. As GPRS data-roaming can be error-prone and costly, there are local back-up options in many countries. The user can also buy a local SIM and connect with a single click. With this unique functionality data connectivity abroad is no longer left to chance and signal strength.
SMS, MMS and Phone Management from the Laptop
SMS/MMS – Benefiting from the Laptop:
This module will appeal to users who would prefer to text with a full keyboard and who appreciate the laptop’s screen and memory when archiving messages. The application eliminates the 160 character restrictions and the user can send messages to any number of recipients in one go. By sending MMS from the laptop, users can access their entire digital photo collection as opposed to those available on their mobile phone. Similarly, when looking to text or call someone, all numbers in MS Outlook can be accessed in addition to those stored on the phone or SIM.
Phone Management – Switching Phones, Back-Up and Archiving:
WebToGo allows back-up of all messages and addresses stored on the phone and on the SIM, making it easy to move them to another phone or SIM or to add to them from MS Outlook. The application can handle several phones or SIM cards as well as data export to other applications.
Dialer – Keeping the Phone in the Bag:
WebToGo works best via Bluetooth. With some Bluetooth mobile phones and Bluetooth headsets, calls can be initiated directly from the Laptop, to recipients straight out of MS Outlook, with no need to even pick up the mobile phone.
Faster and Cheaper Internet Surfing:
WebToGo’s Server Optimization – Compression with a Choice:
WebToGo’s optimization server is fully integrated with the package and compresses data by non-lossy compression, changing image resolution and optional filters. Uniquely, it gives a choice of the compression level and filters, allowing the user to trade off speed versus resolution at all times. WebToGo’s optimization is based on four years of experience in providing the fastest hand-held server-optimized browser on the market and frequently reviewed analysis of commonly accessed web-content. The latest version of the optimization server also includes a flash filter.
Mobile Access to Documents through HTML Conversion:
The task of downloading large Word or PDF files via a GSM/GPRS connection can take hours and the chances are high that the connection will break off before they are through. WebToGo’s optimization server offers a solution to this problem, converting .doc, .pdf, .ppt and .xls documents into HTML on the fly, so that they can be displayed in the browser. This alone typically compresses the data by a factor five. As pages can also be viewed one by one, users can start reading documents almost instantaneously and at a fraction of the price.
