WebToGo now also in Great Britain and Italy
WebToGo, the wireless Internet solution for PDAs and Smartphones, launches in Italy and Great Britain.
Munich, June 14th, 2002 – 6 months after successful launch in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, mobile Internet specialists WebToGo have today officially released English and Italian versions of their cutting edge mobile Internet solution, thus extending their potential clientele to approximately 4.5 million PDA users. English and Italian speaking owners of a Palm OS PDA can finally enjoy surfing the WWW as well as sending and receiving e-Mail on-the-go via the data-connection of their mobile phone.
Internationalization of the service also has advantages for WebToGo’s existing users, who can now switch over to local network operators while in Italy, Spain and the UK, as well as Austria, Switzerland and Germany. This service is expected to be particularly attractive in view of the approaching summer vacations. Users can remain connected even while traveling abroad without paying high international roaming fees.
Featured in the new release are also new localized portals in English and Italian, with Spanish and French versions about to follow suit. These portals offer an unrivaled selection of content particularly suited to the needs of the traveler. Weather forecasts, airline booking, money transfers, checking the airport’s departure board, your home newspaper and even World Cup action via news-tickers are all now at your fingertips.
While WebToGo focuses on ease-of-use and relieves the user of having to come into contact with parameters such as APNs, DNS servers, mobile phone Init-Strings or even POP servers, WebToGo offers the most powerful mobile browser available on the market, due to its special server-side real-time optimization technology. Also a novelty in these realms, WebToGo takes pride in its customer support, with turn-around times to requests for help seldom exceeding a few hours.
WebToGo can be fitted on any Palm OS PDA. It works independently of the connection interface between organizer and mobile phone (cable, infrared or Bluetooth) and is fully compatible with today’s mobile data transfer protocols (GSM, HSCSD and GPRS). Most importantly WebToGo is a key application to prepare the market for UMTS. Release of a Pocket PC/Windows CE version is expected within July 2002.
